Despite appearances, the process of shaving is not at all simple. It is very easy to get irritations, pimples or wounds. To avoid problems, follow a few basic rules. First and foremost, give yourself plenty of time – a quick shave before you leave the house is not a good idea. You should also take a moment to soften the hairs, for example by soaking your skin in warm water, which will open up the cuticles and make them easier to remove. You can also use an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells, leaving only the hairs on the razor blades.

Don’t shave too often – if done daily, this can lead to uncomfortable irritation. Take at least a day off. Time of day is also important. The best choice will be the evening, because through the night the skin has plenty of time for adequate regeneration.

It is also worth taking care of adequate sun protection, especially in the summer, equipping yourself with a cream with SPF. Sunburn definitely will not help in the fight against irritation, and only make the situation worse.

If, despite all the above rules, redness and other skin problems appear after shaving, use a gentle cream or lotion to regenerate irritated and sensitive skin. You can use thermal water to soothe the burning and itching sensation.

How to choose the right shaving tool?

Among the many shaving tools available in the market, it is difficult to choose the best option. The most popular options are traditional disposable razors and razor blades. The former don’t need to be replaced after each use. You can reuse them, but remember to clean them thoroughly. Recently, razors have become fashionable – you can choose from carbon steel, stainless steel and damascus models.

However, the simplest, worthwhile instrument for shaving is still an electronic shaver. There are two types – with blades or using a cutting film. The former are more precise, while the latter are less gentle on the skin. Both types are quite demanding in terms of maintenance. Careful, thorough and regular cleaning is necessary. Some models have a built in rechargeable battery, while others need to be plugged in every time. Very often more expensive razors are suitable not only for shaving, but also for beard care.
