How is muscle electrostimulation performed during EMS training?

EMS training, which is gaining popularity, allows you to achieve the figure of your dreams without much effort. Specialized combination of technology and physical activity can become the future of modern sport.

Technological solutions of the system

Electro Muscle Stimulation is based on the action of varying frequencies of an electric impulse causing stimulation of muscle cells. In the original version of the method, electrodes were placed directly on the user’s body, and gentle impulses affected the work of his muscles. The current was transmitted through stick-on electrodes connected by cable to a control panel. With the development of technology and adaptation of electrostimulation, a specialized system was created to facilitate therapy and training for professional athletes.

Currently, electrodes are placed in a special suit, which is worn by the athlete. The device is controlled by a special EMS console, which sends electric impulses to electrodes placed in the suit. Sensors transmit energy to deep muscles, causing them to contract and perform work similar to that performed during classic strength training. EMS technology is one of the most modern discoveries in the world of sport, which affects only skeletal muscles by means of pulses of direct and alternating current of different frequency. During traditional training, it is the brain that sends impulses to the muscles and makes them work. With the EMS technique, these signals are sent through specialized electrodes.

Special clothing

You will need a special suit to use the method. The electrodes conducting the impulses are placed in a specialized vest, a belt placed on the hips and additional bands for thighs, buttocks, arms or legs. Specific elements of the electrostimulator are dressed depending on the currently trained body parts. A special outfit is worn over the training underwear, which facilitates the conduction of impulses. The cost of such underwear is about 140 PLN, but many of the centers dealing with EMS training offer the possibility of renting the suit. Thanks to the equipment that fits tightly to the body, electric impulses work on all parts of the muscles and bring visible effects in a short time.

Effects of the method

Electrical stimulation of muscles allows for quick achievement of desired effects, improvement of body condition, sculpting the figure, reducing the amount of fat tissue and increasing physical fitness. Initially, the method was used for therapeutic purposes, for example, as part of muscle rehabilitation after injuries or as part of physiotherapy, for example, with back pain. For some time now, electrostimulation therapy has also been used for aesthetic and sports purposes. Studies have shown that thanks to EMS technology, during a 6-week training period an athlete’s strength increases by 30%, and muscle endurance by 108%. A several-week exercise plan also allows for a 4% reduction in body fat and an increase in muscle girth by about 4 centimeters.

Classes using EMS technology should take place once a week, lasting from several minutes to a maximum of half an hour. They must be held in the presence of a professional trainer who specializes in EMS. During a short training with the use of electrostimulation of muscles, more than 100 times more contractions can occur than during a classic physical effort at the gym. According to experts, the method can be even more effective than many hours of training at the gym, because the electrical impulses activate more muscle fibers, reduce the load on the joints and eliminate the risk of injury. The power of energy in the generated electrical impulses does not stimulate nerve cells, so it is not felt, does not cause pain and is completely safe for the health of the user.
